ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM System Diagram System Description ECM performs various controls such as fuel injection control and ignition timing control. Component Parts Location Intake valve timing control solenoid valve (bank 1) Electronic controlled engine mount control solenoid valve Exhaust valve timing control magnet retarder (bank 2) Intake valve timing control solenoid valve (bank 2) Knock sensor (bank 1 and 2) Fuel injector (bank 2) Ignition coil (with power transistor) and spark plug (bank 2) Exhaust valve timing control position sensor (bank 2) Crankshaft position sensor (POS) Engine coolant temperature sensor 11.
ECM Reference Value VALUES ON THE DIAGNOSIS TOOL NOTE: The following table includes information (items) inapplicable to this vehicle. For information (items) applicable to this vehicle, refer to CONSULT display items. Numerical values in the following table are reference values. These values are input/output values that ECM receives/transmits and may differ from actual operations. Example: The ignition timing shown by the timing light may differ from the ignition timing displayed on the data monitor.

Precaution for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER" The Supplemental Restraint System such as "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER", used along with a front seat belt, helps to reduce the risk or severity of injury to the driver and front passenger for certain types of collision. This system includes seat belt switch inputs and dual stage front air bag modules. The SRS system uses the seat belt switches to determine the front air bag deployment, and may only deploy one front air bag, depending on the severity of a collision and whether the front occupants are belted or unbelted.
Special Service Tools The actual shapes of Kent-Moore tools may differ from those of special service tools illustrated here.
