TCM Reference Value VALUES ON THE DIAGNOSIS TOOL TERMINAL LAYOUT PHYSICAL VALUES Fail-safe The TCM has an electrical fail-safe mode. In this mode TCM operates even if there is an error in a main electronic control input/output signal circuit. FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION If any malfunction occurs in a sensor or solenoid valve, this function controls the CVT to make driving possible. Secondary Speed Sensor The shift pattern is changed in accordance with the throttle position when an unexpected signal is sent from the secondary speed sensor to the TCM. The manual mode and "DS" mode are inhibited, and the transaxle is put in "D".

SYSTEM SYMPTOM Symptom Table The diagnostics item numbers show the sequence for inspection. Inspect in order from item 1.
PRECAUTIONS Precaution for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER" The Supplemental Restraint System such as "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER", used along with a front seat belt, helps to reduce the risk or severity of injury to the driver and front passenger for certain types of collision. This system includes seat belt switch inputs and dual stage front air bag modules. The SRS system uses the seat belt switches to determine the front air bag deployment, and may only deploy one front air bag, depending on the severity of a collision and whether the front occupants are belted or unbelted.
PREPARATION Special Service Tools Commercial Service Tools
Exploded View Secondary speed sensor Shim Transaxle assembly O-ring Apply CVT Fluid NS-2 Removal and Installation REMOVAL Disconnect the battery negative terminal. Refer to PG-67, "Removal and Installation (Battery)". Remove hoodledge cover (LH). Remove engine room cover. Remove front air duct. Refer to EM-24, "Removal and Installation". Remove air cleaner case assembly. Refer to EM-24, "Removal and Installation" Disconnect secondary speed sensor harness connector. Remove secondary speed sensor (1) and shim (2). CAUTION: Do not lose the shim. Remove O-ring (3) from secondary speed sensor. CAUTION: Do not reuse O-ring.
TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY Exploded View Air breather hose CVT fluid level gauge CVT fluid charging pipe O-ring Copper sealing washer Fluid cooler tube Transaxle assembly A. Refer to INSTALLATION. Removal and Installation WARNING: Do not remove the reservoir tank cap when the engine is hot. Serious burns could occur from highpressure engine coolant escaping from the reservoir tank. Wrap a thick cloth around the cap. Slowly turn a quarter turn to allow built-up pressure to escape. Carefully remove the cap by turning it all the way. CAUTION: Perform this step when the engine is cold.
TORQUE CONVERTER Exploded View Torque converter Transaxle assembly Disassembly Remove transaxle assembly. Refer to TM-188, "Exploded View". Remove torque converter from transaxle assembly. Assembly Note the following, and install in the reverse order of removal. Attach the pawl (A) of the torque converter to the inner gear hole (B) on the oil pump side. CAUTION: Rotate the torque converter for installing torque converter. Inspection INSPECTION AFTER INSTALLATION After inserting a torque converter to transaxle assembly, check dimension (A) is within the reference value limit.
SERVICE DATA AND SPECIFICATIONS (SDS) General Specification CAUTION: Use only Genuine NISSAN CVT Fluid NS-2. Never mix with other fluid. Using CVT fluid other than Genuine NISSAN CVT Fluid NS-2 will deteriorate in driveability and CVT durability, and may damage the CVT, which is not covered by the NISSAN new vehicle limited warranty. *1: Refer to MA-15, "FOR USA AND CANADA : Fluids and Lubricants" (For United States and Canada), MA-16, "FOR MEXICO : Fluids and Lubricants" (For Mexico). *2: The fluid capacity is the reference value. Check the fluid level with CVT fluid level gauge. Vehicle Speed When Shifting Gears Numerical value data are reference values.
